So Long... Farewell

Well, here we are again. It is the end of another term for those of us in grad school at Troy University, so I am here to, once again, close out this blog. As far as I know, I do not have another class that requires a blog, but who knows, I may continue this in the future anyway!

I have really enjoyed writing this blog. I love writing in general, and being able to show a little bit of personality in my writing is always fun! The topics I wrote about always got my mind working, and I have learned a lot about things that I never would have without this class!

This term I have learned a lot about emerging media and the importance of staying current on technology. It has forced me to think about topics that I never really have before. I think my favorite topics that we have been able to talk about are Social Media and Politics, which are two of my favorite things, and surprisingly Crowdsourcing. The prevalence of crowdsourcing today is something that I never realized. It is almost everywhere on social media and traditional media, and is a great way to get the public involved in a company. There are crowdsourcing campaigns that I saw growing up, wanting to participate in, but I never realized that those were crowdsourcing until this class.

Another favorite topic of mine? Citizen journalism. While I knew that I had a few strong opinions on the topic, it was very interesting to see what my classmates thought. That is one thing that is great about this program, you still get to have discussions with your classmates even though we are all in different places!

I have greatly enjoyed this class, and I look forward to continuing on in my studies!

PR, Social Media, and the 24 Hour News Cycle

I get woken up every morning by an alarm on my Echo Dot going off. I scroll through social media and read some emails before I read my morning news, which is delivered directly to my inbox by a few different news conglomerates. I watch TV while I’m getting ready and listen to a podcast on my drive to work. My entire morning routine revolves around technology. It is almost crazy how much I use it every morning just while I am getting ready for work, and I am not the only one that is like this. We live in a world that is very dependent upon technology, and that can be a great thing! I love being able to keep up with my family and friends who don’t live near me! Without technology and social media, I would never be able to talk to my best friend during her deployment, but this reliance on technology, and our constant need to be updated on events as they are happening, can be a hindrance to us all. I studied public relations for my undergraduate degree. One class I took was Public Rel...
